PANJIM: Was Constable Vikas Kaushik, PC 7031, dismissed for literally running gangs of robbers a lone wolf?
What happens to the allegations that have been levelled against the two high-ranking Officers who are said to be protecting him? The Director General of Police (DGP) may have stood up for these officers, but the buzz around this doesn’t seem to die down.
Some of the Police who work with Constable Vikas Kaushik have confided that he has been deeply involved in protecting illegal online casinos and gambling dens. It is also known that he was also involved in collecting protection money from illegal businesses for his political godfathers from South Goa. However, it is also noteworthy that in the inquiry it is also known that two IPS officers are also involved in operating the ‘racket’.
Though not much is done regarding the online gambling dens in Goa, there are hundreds if not more are operating by paying regular bribes.
The cover of Vikas Kaushik was blown after MLA Venzy Viegas alleged that Kaushik was involved in blackmailing businessmen in exchange for money.
“There is an allegation that two IPS officers are protecting this constable. This needs to be investigated because the name of Goa and Goa’s police force is being shamed,” Viegas said.
The links of alleged criminal connections of Kaushik with anti-social elements were further exposed when the police captured a chain snatcher who later spilled the beans in the entire ops.
The allegations of involvement of high-rank officers in corruption and rackets are not a new thing for Goa. RTI Activist Munnalal had accused the former IGP of Goa of demanding bribes of Rs 5 lakh from him.
“It’s been seven years, crores or rupees in legal fees and Supreme Court battle in the pursuit of truth and justice in order to register an FIR in corruption case,” Halwai said. The case of Halwai against IPS officer Sunil Garg has been admitted by the SC and referred to the Constitution Bench for hearing.
“The officers through their police stations don’t register any case without percentage. I spoke the truth and my family was under threat. This is a worrisome situation,” he added.
