KKR Captain Ajinkya Rahane: We’ll look to bowl first. The wicket looks really good. If we bowl first, we’ll get an idea how this wicket is. Dew factor is huge here. It’s about staying positive, this format is all about being fearless, playing with intent. We played very good cricket, T20 is all about giving your best each and every day. We are looking forward to this game. We learnt a lot from the last game. We want to stay in the moment. I don’t look at the stars that much, for me, it’s all about contributing. Sunil Narine misses out, he’s not well. Moeen Ali comes in.
Riyan Parag: Very proud, very humbled (to be leading RR). The middle-order really stepped up. A lot of positives with the ball as well. One change. Hasaranga comes in, Farooqi steps out.
Action to get underway from Guwahati as RR take on Kolkata Knight Riders in match 6 of the IPL 2025.
Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal are at the crease for Rajasthan Royals and will look to give their side a decent start against KKR in Guwahati.
Score after 2 overs
RR 14/0
Vaibhav Arora has cleaned up Sanju Samson to give KKR their first wicket of the evening. The India batter comes down the track and makes room to access the off-side but fails to connect with the bat as the ball rattles the stumps.
Score after 5 overs
RR 41/1
Skipper and local boy Riyan Parag has been sent back to the hut for an entertaining 25(15). The captain tried to go for a big heave through the on side, but the delivery held up a touch leading him to edge this high into the night sky. A good catch by de Kock to complete the wicket.
Rajasthan Royals are in a spot of bother with the inaugural champions losing four wickets inside 10 overs. They have lost Wanindu Hasaranga and Yashasvi Jaiswal in quick succession, leaving them with very less hope for the rest of the innings.
Score after 10 overs
RR 76/4
Another one bites the dust! Nitish Rana, formerly of KKR, was the fifth wicket to go as Kolkata tightened their grip on the match. Long way back for the home team in this game now.
Score after 10 overs
RR 92/5
Vaibhav Arora snaps up his second wicket of the evening as he sends back RR’s Shubham Dubey as Royals go six down in the game. All hopes lie on Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer.
Score after 15 overs
RR 110/6
Dhruv Jurel is bowled for a well-made 33 runs as the wicketkeeper-batter is bowled by Harshit Rana in the 19th over. A handy knock from Jurel once again but RR need much more than this.
Some heft blows in the end by Jofra Archer sees Rajasthan Royals cross 150-run mark in Guwahati as they register 151/9 in 20 overs. KKR were tidy in their bowling with all bowlers contributing with the ball. RR’s batting failed miserably with Jurel being the highest-scorer with 33 runs.
Score after 20 overs
RR 151/9
KKR have promoted Moeen Ali up the order alongside Quinton de Kock as they look to chase down RR’s total of 152 in Guwahati. Early wickets will be key for Royals if they are to make this an even contest.
Quinton de Kock, Moeen Ali open the KKR innings and have started off on a blistering note. RR need wickets but it looks unlikely with the rate at which KKR batters are going about with things.
Score after 5 overs
KKR 35/0
RR 151/9
KKR have lost Moeen Ali via run-out as Rajasthan Royals have scalped their first wicket of the evening. However, the bad news for the Royals is that KKR are going nicely in their run-chase and need under 100 runs to win the match.
Score after 8 overs
KKR 55/1
RR 151/9
Kolkata Knight Riders need 82 runs in 60 balls and most importantly have nine wickets in hand. The match is completely in KKR’s favour at the moment unless RR’s bowlers turn the tide in their favour.
Score after 10 overs
KKR 70/1
RR 151/9
Victory is in sight for KKR as they require 34 runs and claim their first-ever win of this IPL 2025 season. RR will rue their batting efforts early on in the innings.
Score after 15 overs
KKR 118/2
RR 151/9
Riyan Parag, RR captain – 170 was going to be a really good score, that’s what we were aiming for. I personally rushed a little bit knowing the wicket here. Fell short by 20 runs. That was the plan, to get Quinny out early, but that didn’t happen. So, we shifted to containing in the middle overs. He played really well, so kudos to him. (Happy to bat at No. 3?) Last year, the team wanted me to bat No. 4, I was happy to do that. This year, they want me to bat No. 3, so I need to be professional to bat wherever the team wants me to, so I am okay with that. We have a younger team this year compared to the one last year. It’s just about coming together for a whole match. We are doing very good in small phases. It’s time that we put together a good match and then the results are going to be in our favour. We take the learnings, we take our mistakes, we make sure we don’t repeat them again and come back for Chennai with a fresher mindset.
Ajinkya Rahane, KKR Captain: Firstly, we bowled really well in the first six overs. The middle overs were crucial too – the way the spinners controlled things. Moeen got his opportunity and he bowled really well. This is a format where we want players to play fearlessly, we want to give them freedom. Credit goes to our bowling unit too who were always looking to pick wickets, especially Moeen. Not much, complete freedom from our side. Moeen is a quality player who has opened in the past. He couldn’t get going with the bat, but very happy with what he did with the ball. The challenge is to stay in the moment, and every game is an opportunity to learn.
Tomorrow’s match features Sunrisers Hyderabad welcoming Lucknow Super Giants in match 7 of the Indian Premier League 2025. Until then, it’s good night!
