Pune, 30th January 2025: The Maharashtra government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing affordable housing to the common citizens of the state, with plans to construct approximately one lakh homes in the next two years through the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). Deputy Chief Minister and Housing Minister Eknath Shinde announced that a new housing policy will be unveiled soon to support this ambitious goal.
In a significant step, an online lottery for 3,662 flats in MHADA’s Pune division was held today at the Zilla Parishad hall. While Shinde participated in the event virtually from Thane, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar joined the event from Mumbai. The event was also attended by Minister of State for Housing Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar, MHADA Pune Board Chairman Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, MHADA Vice Chairman and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal, and other key officials.
During his address, DCM Pawar highlighted the transparent and efficient process used to implement the lottery, which is conducted entirely online without human intervention. Winning applicants receive a notification letter, and upon fulfilling the required provisions, they are sent a temporary dekar letter for the flats. He emphasized that the absence of intermediaries or brokers makes the process simple and transparent.
Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, Chairman of the MHADA Pune Board, shared that the authority has made a significant number of affordable homes available through its schemes, contributing to addressing the housing needs of the public.
Additionally, DCM Shinde proposed the establishment of hostels at various locations for working women, students, and senior citizens, further supporting the common citizen. He urged the quick possession of flats for lottery winners, ensuring the timely availability of affordable housing across the state. In the past 18 months, MHADA has facilitated the availability of about 30,000 homes through 13 separate draws.
