Welcome to Sportstar’s highlights of the IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals at the Mullanpur Stadium in Chandigarh. This is Anish Pathiyil and Sahil Mathur taking you through all the action.
Archer to bowl the last over of the day. The result very much beyond doubt now. How much can PBKS conjure up to reduce the margin? Shashank clips one to midwicket but doesn’t take a single. Doesn’t make contact on his next two slog attempts. Another dot, as he clips a blackhole delivery to square leg. In fact, he scampers across for a single this time. WICKET!! Arshdeep slams one straight to short cover after making room down leg.
Arshdeep Singh c Hasaranga b Jofra Archer 1(5)
Four!! Ferguson guides the penultimate ball through backward point for a boundary. A lengthy check for a no-ball after the fielder failed to make it inside the ring before the batter faced the ball. Not given a no-ball and that boundary signals the end of the innings. RR completes a comfortable 50-run win.
Sandeep with his final over. Shashank’s wristy flick to long on gets him a single. Yorker on the stumps, Arshdeep jams it down for a single to deep fine. Shashank picks up a couple to deep square leg.
Jansen looks to loft Theekshana down the ground, makes no contact on the shot. Fires in a wide outside off, deflects off Samson’s gloves for an extra run. Jansen misses his attempted reverse sweep. WICKET!! Jansen whips a full ball aerially through midwicket, picks out the fielder to perfection.
Marco Jansen c Hetmyer b Theekshana 3(6)
Big appeals for lbw against Arshdeep, but the ball seemed to be missing offstump. Wickets missing says ball tracking. Arshdeep lofts one down the ground but doesn’t take a single.
Sandeep with his third over. WICKET!! Short and wide outside off to Shedge, his cut shot finds the waiting palms of deep point.
Suryansh Shedge c Hetmyer b Sandeep Sharma 2(4)
Marco Jansen in at 9. Flicks his first ball to deep midwicket for one. Two more singles in the over. Yorker on the stumps, clipped to the legside for one by Shashank. Six runs from the over. Outstanding from Sandeep.
WICKET!! Hasaranga tosses one up outside off, Wadhera sweeps it towards midwicket, Jurel takes a brilliant catch diving forward to remove the set batter.
Nehal Wadhera c Dhruv Jurel b Hasaranga 62(41)
Shedge and Shashank at the crease. Shedge looks to go big first ball, only finds deep square leg. Shashank gets off the mark with a dab to deep midwicket. Appeals for lwb against Shedge, not given. RR reviews and ball tracking suggests it was umpire’s call on hitting.
Theekshana back. Four!! Wadhera steps down a lofts a length ball through the gap between long on and midwicket for four. Four!! Full and straight, Wadhera inside edges through short fine leg for a boundary. Two dots from Theekshana to make a strong comeback in the over. WICKET!! Maxwell c Jaiswal b Theekshana 30(21)
Wadhera punches Hasaranga down the ground, Jaiswal puts in a brilliant effort to prevent a boundary. Six!! Wadhera lofts the spinner straight back down the ground to bring up his half century!
Yudhvir with his second. Slower ball on the stumps, Maxwell caught out by the lack of place. Maxwell picks up a couple to deep point. Four!! Maxwell moves legside and guides one past short third for a boundary. Two short balls down legside, called wide. A third wide but Samson reviews it for a nick behind. No spike on Ultraedge. Maxwell pulls away from the crease at the last minute due to the movement of the spider cam. Guides one to short third for a single. Wadhera gets a single to the legside off the next ball. Four!! Maxwell reverse-scoops a short of a length ball over short third and picks up another boundary.
Hasaranga back for his second. Six!! Wadhera slog sweeps the first ball of the over for six over midwicket. Punches one to long on off the backfoot. Tossed up outside leg as Maxwell advances, pushes to the legside for one. Wadhera advances before pushing on to the legside, picks up two and an overthrow will bring up the 50-run partnership!
Theekshana with his second over. Maxwell mistimes his shot towards long on for a single. Maxwell misses his reverse sweep on a full ball outside off. In the blockhole on the stumps, Maxwell punches to cover for one. Five from the over.

Nehal Wadhera in at five. Takes a single off the first ball. Prabhsimran ends the over with a cheeky flick towards fine leg for four.
Archer. Too quick and bounced over the keeper for four! It’s not given as a wide though. Prabhsimran chips over mid off, doesn’t time enough for it to go the fence. This is a brutal spell by Archer, very quick.
Yudhvir Singh now. Prabhsimran Singh welcomes him with a glorious cover drive for four. Yudhvir does well for the rest of the over and only concedes one more run.
Jofra Archer to take the new ball. Priyansh Arya opens the innings with Prabhsimran Singh.
OUT! A wicket off the first ball as Archer cleans up Priyansh. Straight delivery and beats his defence.
Shreyas Iyer starts with a beautiful lofted cover drive for four. Stunning shot. Another one! This time the length was slightly pushed but Iyer played on the up and lofted towards cover for four. Iyer takes a double cutting the ball past point. OUT! Iyer is gone. Clears his leg, and went for a wild slog and completes misses the ball that shatters the stumps. Terrific over for Rajasthan.

Off pace in the same region, blunted to cover for a quick single. Parag gets a single to long off. Four!! Hetmyer times the pull perfectly to find the gap through midwicket to pick up four. WICKET!! Looks to go big downtown, was a full toss on the body, only manages to find long on.
Hetmyer c Maxwell b Arshdeep Singh 20(12)
Jurel picks up a single to get off the mark.
Jansen to bowl out. Six!! Parag picks the slower ball and lofts it straight down the ground for six! Six!! Full down leg, Parag flicks his wrists to get power on it and clear the fence at deep fine. Dropped!! Miscues his attempted lofted shot down the ground, Jansen runs backwards from his mark but can’t hold on at the end. Another mistimed shot, falls well short of the fielders in the deep. 17 from the over.
Ferguson with his last over. Hetmyer defends one to short midwicket for one. Parag keen on a second, sent back, just manages to make it back. Parag once again too early into his attempted pull. Last result – Punjab Kings won by five wickets (Guwahati, 2024)
Punjab Kings, after rollicking victories away in Ahmedabad and Lucknow, is set to don the role of a host for the first time in IPL 2025.
Saturday’s fixture against the Rajasthan Royals is also a good opportunity for the in-form team to snap its four-match winless run at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium.
After the 11-run win over Gujarat Titans in a run feast, PBKS hunted down Lucknow Super Giants’ 171 in a canter. Skipper Shreyas Iyer (149 runs at a strike rate of 206.94) has been at the forefront of Kings’ charge with the bat.
The team’s astute use of the Impact Player rule (V. Vyshak vs GT and Nehal Wadhera vs LSG) has also been praiseworthy.
