They’re still chasing consistency, with back-to-back wins continuing to elude them, and have now dropped to 6th place. He adds that he has always had self-belief and constantly thinks about ways to dismiss batters. Shares that he varied his pace deliberately to make it harder for the batters to time their shots.

Ponting praises Yuzvendra Chahal’s outstanding performance, noting that Chahal had overcome a shoulder injury to play a crucial role. Ponting commends his team’s remarkable comeback in the second innings, expressing pride in their efforts. He acknowledges that even if they had lost, he wouldn’t have been disheartened, given the team’s performance. However, he feels that their decision-making with the bat left much to be desired. Ponting also discusses the team’s strategy with the new ball, using Marco Jansen and Xavier Bartlett to exploit specific matchups. He describes the game as one of the best he’s been part of.
The captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Ajinkya Rahane, says he doesn’t have anything to explain. He says he takes the blame for this dismal effort. He says Angkrish wasn’t sure on the LBW where he (Rahane) was not out, as the impact was outside off. He says he wasn’t thinking about the net run rate at any time of the chase and he just was thinking to get those two points because the wicket wasn’t easy to bat. He says the PBKS batting lineup was strong and their bowlers did a good job to restrict them to such a low total. He says as an individual and team, they should be confident in such chases and should keep the intent going, but then, this wicket wasn’t the one where you can play across the line, so that is what went wrong. He says, at the moment, there are too many things going on in his head, and he will try to keep himself calm and think about what he will talk about in the dressing room. He mentions the tournament is a long one and it’s important to keep the confidence intact going ahead in the season.
Earlier, after the toss went in their favour, PBKS got off to a brisk start. Everything seemed on track as they were 39/0 in the 4th over, but once the opening stand was broken, it all went downhill for the home side. While some of the dismissals were a result of the bowler’s skill, others were self-inflicted due to poor shot selection. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and no one could step up to halt the slide, a recurring theme on the night for both teams. Eventually, the Kings were bowled out for just 111. Harshit Rana inflicted the early damage, finishing with a three-wicket haul and emerging as KKR’s standout bowler on the night. In the middle phase, it was the spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy who combined to tighten the screws and dismantle the Kings’ batting lineup.
At 62/2, KKR seemed to be in control, but the game took a turn with the departure of Rahane. He was given out LBW but chose not to review, only for the impact to turn out as outside off. Seizing the opportunity, the Kings pounced, with Yuzvendra Chahal leading the charge. Andre Russell kept KKR in the hunt with a few trademark blows, but with wickets falling regularly at the other end, he was left with too much to do. Chahal was the architect of Punjab’s remarkable comeback, finishing with standout figures of 4 for 28 from his 4 overs.
After the bowlers did their job by skittling the Kings for just 111, the Knight Riders would have been aiming to chase the target down in 14.1 overs to go top of the table. However, they lost a couple of early wickets, giving the Kings a glimmer of hope. Ajinkya Rahane then brought a calming influence, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi eased the nerves with some well-timed boundaries.

Back of a length wide outside off, Andre Russell looks to slog this across the line and gets it chopped back into the stumps off the inside edge, only to smash his bat into the surface out of agony as PBKS wins this thriller by 16 runs.
Anrich Nortje is the last man in, but all eyes will be on Andre Russell, who’s on strike at the start of the new over. Does he go for it with three big hits? Or will he trust Nortje to hold up his end? It’s a tricky call. Russell’s instinct is to go big, but with just one wicket in hand, the margin for error is razor thin. A slight hold-up in play as Nortje’s bat does not pass the gauge test. The bat has been replaced, and we are good to go.
14.6: Arshdeep Singh to Vaibhav Arora, OUT! EDGED AND GONE! GOODNESS GRACIOUS ME! Arshdeep Singh has managed to get Vaibhav Arora edge one back to the keeper and PBKS just need one more to pull off one of the most insane victories in the history of IPL. Arshdeep comes round the wicket and persists with that short-pitched ploy. Vaibhav Arora leans back and was looking to bail out of the impulsive poke at this one but gets a faint edge off the gloves, it seemed to the naked eye back to Josh Inglis who gathers this.
14.5: Arshdeep Singh to Vaibhav Arora, Bumper, bang on that badge on the helmet. Vaibhav Arora takes his eyes off the ball and just shadows a defensive stroke. Luckily the ball jams down off the gloves towards off.
