Bharatiya Janata Party’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma was leading against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and Delhi’s former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi Assembly Constituency, as per the trends, as the votes for the Delhi assembly elections were being counted.
Verma was leading against Kejriwal as the counting of electronic votes began post 8.30 am. However, the former Chief Minister took the lead against Verma in between.
After nearly an hour, BJP’s Verma has again left Kejriwal behind.
Speaking to reporters after trends indicated his win, Parvesh Sahib Singh said, “The people have placed their trust in us, this is a victory for the residents of Delhi."

As a member of the BJP, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma served two terms as an MP for West Delhi. In 2014 he was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha and re-elected in 2019 for the 17th Lok Sabha with the highest-ever margin of victory in the history of Delhi, a margin of 578,486 votes.
He contested the Mehrauli Vidhan Sabha constituency in the 2013 assembly election and defeated MP Yoganand Shastri, speaker of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha.
Other than Arvind Kejriwal, who is seeking his fourth consecutive term from the constituency, and BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, other prominent names from the constituency include Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit – the son of Sheila Dikshit, who served as Delhi’s Chief Minister for 15 years.
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)’s Virender is also contesting as a candidate from the New Delhi Assembly Constituency. Virender is 27 years old and his total assets amount to Rs 27,000, while liabilities stand at Rs 0.
Until 9.30 am, the total votes counted from the New Delhi Assembly constituency were 4,943, and the BJP was leading by 74 votes.

Arvind Kejriwal had bagged 2,198 votes
Sandeep Dixit had bagged 404 votes
2020: Arvind Kejriwal won the New Delhi Assembly Constituency, defeating BJPs’ Sunil Kumar Yadav by a margin of 21,697 votes, which was 28.35 per cent of the total votes cast for the seat. The AAP had a vote share of 61.1 per cent in 2020 in this seat.
2015: Arvind Kejriwal won this seat after defeating BJP’s Nupur Sharma by a margin of 31,583 votes, which was 35.4 per cent of the total votes cast for the seat. The AAP had a vote share of 64.14 per cent in 2015 in this seat.
2013: Arvind Kejriwal won this seat after he defeated Congress’s Sheila Dikshit by a margin of 25,864 votes, which was 31.24 per cent of the total votes cast for the seat. AAP had a vote share of 53.46 per cent in 2013 in this seat.
2008: Sheila Dikshit of Congress won in this seat defeating BJP’s Vijay Jolly by a margin of 13,982 votes, which was 18.35 per cent of the total votes cast for the seat. INC had a vote share of 52.2 per cent in 2008 in this seat.
