Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Chandrakant Pandit has played down the controversy surrounding the Eden Gardens following their one-sided defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 22 March. Reports suggested that Eden curator Sujan Mukherjee had refused to pay heed to the Knight Riders’ request for a spin-friendly wicket, and the pitch that was ultimately used for the tournament opener was one that ended up providing RCB seamers, including and especially Josh Hazlewood, a fair amount of support.
“See, as a coach, as a team management, whatever the surface has been provided to us, we play. The control, of course, that will be under curator. And at this moment, the focus is definitely going to be on the next game tomorrow (Monday) which we are playing.
“So, at the moment, I am definitely not thinking on what has to be done, what is in whose control. But let us focus on tomorrow’s game which is very crucial for us,” Pandit said on the eve of KKR’s meeting with Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
There is some good news in store for Indian cricket fans – Jasprit Bumrah has resumed bowling in the nets at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where he has been undergoing rehabilitation for the back injury that has kept him out of action since the Sydney Test against Australia in January.
However, there still isn’t any official timeline on the senior pacer’s return to action, meaning he will be missing MI’s upcoming match against KKR.
