Pune, 8th February 2025: The online lottery for admissions to the 25% reserved seats in private schools under the Right to Education Act (RTE) has been rescheduled. Initially set for 11 AM on Monday (February 10), the lottery will now take place at 1 PM to avoid a clash with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ program.
The announcement was made by Sharad Gosavi, Director of Primary Education, through a press release. The lottery will be conducted at the Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (Vidya Pratishthan) in Pune.
According to official data, a total of 3,05,828 applications have been received for 1,09,111 seats across 8,863 private schools in Maharashtra. The lottery process will determine the allocation of these seats.
Once the results are announced, parents will receive a notification via SMS on their registered mobile numbers within four to five days. The detailed schedule for completing school admissions will be released thereafter.
The rescheduling was done to accommodate PM Modi’s ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’, a live program where he will interact with students, offering guidance on stress-free exam preparation. Since students, teachers, and parents are expected to watch the event, the education department decided to shift the RTE lottery to 1 PM to ensure smooth participation in both events.
The RTE admission process provides economically weaker sections with access to quality education in private schools, and the lottery remains a crucial step in the implementation of this policy.
