Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad face off at Eden Gardens in IPL 2025.
Hello and welcome to Sportstar’s highlights of the IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Eden Gardens. This was Anish Pathiyil and Dhruva Prasad taking you through the action.
Russell starts with a wide down legside. Harshal miscues his attempted lofted shot over the offside, falls ahead of the deep fielder running in. Shami picks up a single to midwicket.
WICKET!! Harshal Patel pulls a short ball straight up into the air and Russell completes the caught and bowled to condemn the away side to a 80-run thrashing.
WICKET!! Cummins looks to loft Varun down the ground, provides an easy catch to long on.
Cummins c Harshit Rana b Varun Chakaravarthy 14(15)
WICKET!! Varun spins one into Simarjeet and cleans up his stumps first ball.
Simarjeet Singh b Varun Chakaravarthy 0(1)
Shami the last man in. Appeals for lbw but clearly missing off stump. Shami gets off the mark with a single to deep midwicket.
Vaibhav back for his final over. Four!! Yorker outside off, Klaasen looks to sweep it and the inside edge runs through fine leg for four. Slower short ball to Cummins, pulled to deep midwicket for one. WICKET!! Short ball to Klaasen, his miscued pall is comfortably pouched by Moeen at short square.
Klaasen c Moeen Ali b Vaibhav Arora 33(21)
Harshal Patel in at 9. Two singles to round out the over.
Six!! A touch too short from Narine. Klaasen lofts it over midwicket for six. Six!! Similar length, pummeled over deepmidwicket for six more. Some turn for Narine, goes through Klaasen’s pads for a legbye. 15 from the over.
Klaasen punches to the offside to pick up a single against Harshit Rana. Cummins just manages to awkwardly sway away from the bouncer. Looks like Harshit’s towel fell down during the run up and threw the SRH skipper off. Four!! Short ball, Cummins gets a top edge on the pull and it flies over the keeper for four. Guides a slower ball to third man for one. Klaasen punches one to long on to retain strike.
Narine to Cummins, spins in to the right hander, thuds off his thigh pad and he’ll pick up two legbyes to short third. Cummins looks to guide one through third man, doesn’t make contact. Four from the over.
Varun with his third over. Aniket whips one to deep midwicket for one. Throws one wide outside off, called a wide. WICKET!!! Attempts a slog over midwicket, only manages to hole out to the fielder in the deep.
Aniket Verma c Venkatesh Iyer b Varun Chakaravarthy 6(6)
Cummins in at 8. Four!! Cummins moves across, and scoops one over the keeper to get off the mark with a boundary.
Narine again. Jabbed to long-on by Klaasen for a single. Wide outside off, and bunted down the ground by Kamindu for a couple of runs. OUT! Pulled straight to deep midwicket and Kamindu has to go back.
Aniket Verma comes in and gets off the mark with a boundary, as he cuts the ball behind point. This one is going down leg-side and called a wide. Punched through covers by Aniket for a single to end the over.
Kamindu Mendis c sub (Anukul Roy) b Sunil Narine 27 (20b 1×4 2×6)
Varun into his second over. Pushed to wide long-on by Klaasen for one more. Reverse swept by Kamindu, and excellent fielding by Venkatesh in the deep to keep it down to a single. FOUR! Angling towards leg-stump, short, and Klaasen pulls this to the fine-leg boundary. One more for him at long-on next ball. A couple of dot balls to end the over.
Sunil Narine into the attack. Clipped to long-on by Klaasen for a single to begin the over. Leading edge from Kamindu next ball, and he lucky that it goes wide of the point fielder for a single. Klaasen goes back and turns this away off his pads for a single through square-leg. One more for Kamindu through midwicket. Just five singles from the over.
SIX! Andre Russell into the attack and greeted with a six from Kamindu. Shortish on leg-stump and Kamindu deposits the ball over the boundary behind square with a pick-up shot. FOUR! Full outside off and this is chipped over cover for a boundary by Kamindu. Flicked through midwicket for a single by Kamindu.
OUT! Nitish chips this straight to wide long-on and SRH loses another wicket.
In comes Heinrich Klaasen and is off the mark with a drive down the ground for a single. SIX! Kamindu does well to get a measure of this bouncer. He swivels and pulls this over fine-leg for a big six.
Nitish Kumar Reddy c Sunil Narine b Andre Russell 19 (15b 2×4 1×6)
Varun Chakaravarthy to bowl the final over of the PowerPlay. Flicked off the pads by Nitish for a couple to start the over. Loud appeal for lbw but not given, and Rahane has gone upstairs, even though De Kock is not too confident. Ball-tracking suggests this is missing leg-stump and Nitish survives. KKR loses the review. Punched through midwicket by Nitish for a single.
Varun comes around the wicket to Kamindu for the last ball. A slip in place. Driven to long-on by Kamindu for a single to end the over.
Arora will continue. FOUR! On the pads, and Nitish flicks it with ease to the fine-leg boundary. Full on leg-stump now, and Nitish gets a bit of a leading edge but it doesn’t balloon back to the bowler. FOUR! Too short now, and this is pulled away with disdain through midwicket for another boundary by Nitish. SIX! Full toss on the pads, and duly flicked behind square-leg for a maximum by Nitish. Very poor bowling this over from Arora. Beaten! Short of a length just outside off, and the ball jags back in off the pitch to beat the heave on off-side by Nitish. Steered to point by Nitish to end the over with a single.
Harshit again. He bowls a couple of back-of-a-length deliveries just outside off to keep Nitish on a leash. Nitish is off the mark finally with a single at mid-on. Good short ball from Harshit, going across from Kamindu, who misses the pull completely. Dabbed away through short-third by Kamindu and he is off the mark with a couple after facing six dot balls. Picked up over square-leg by Kamindu for a couple more to end the over.
OUT! A stunning catch from Rahane at cover and Ishan has to go. This was full from Arora, and Ishan drove firmly, but Rahane was swift, and dived to his left to take a stunner.
Nitish Kumar Reddy and Kamindu Mendis now in the middle. Four dot balls in a row as Kamindu cannot put bat on ball. DROPPED! Kamindu chips this to mid-on, and Russell, of all people, has dropped this chance.
Ishan Kishan c Ajinkya Rahane b Vaibhav Arora 2 (5b)
Harshit Rana from the other end. Length on leg-stump and Abhishek can only push the ball as far as the cover fielder. Abhishek gets an inside edge as he looks to flay this on the off-side and he steals a single. This is going way too across from Ishan and called a wide. This is angling across, and the extra bit of bounce means Ishan cannot connect as he wafts his bat in the channel. Cut away to deep point by Ishan for a single.
OUT! And Abhishek is caught in the slips. Pace off, Abhishek loses his shape trying to slog this on the off-side. The ball takes the outside edge and straight to Venkatesh in the cordon.
Abhishek Sharma c Venkatesh Iyer b Harshit Rana 2 (6b)
Travis Head comes on as Impact Player and opens alongside Abhishek Sharma. Vaibhav Arora is the Impact Player for KKR and will open the innings. FOUR! Head starts off with a boundary through mid-off even as his one hand comes off the handle of the bat. OUT! Head is gone next ball and Harshit Rana takes an excellent tumbling catch at extra-cover.
Ishan Kishan comes in and starts off by leaving this one outside off. Blocked to point by Ishan and he is off the mark with a quick single. Punched behind point by Abhishek for a single to end the over.
Travis Head c Harshit Rana b Vaibhav Arora 4 (2b 1×4)
Kamindu, who can bowl with both hands, showcased his skill during the 13th over of the innings, first bowling his left-arm spin against Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and following it up by bowling right-arm off-break against Venkatesh Iyer.
Six!! Harshal with the final over. Slower length ball outside off, Venkatesh waits for it and lofts it down the ground for six. Four!! Full toss from Harshal, Venkatesh manages to slash it through third man for four. WICKET!!! Venkatesh skies his attempted lofted shot and is caught at long on by Aniket. End of a stunning knock.
Venkatesh Iyer c Aniket Verma b Harshal Patel 60(29)
Andre Russell in at seven. Short of a length outside off, slapped to cover for a single. Harshal goes short to Rinku who misses his pull, too wide and he’ll have to rebowl. Full outside off, punched to deep cover for one. 200 up for KKR! Russell doesn’t make contact on his pull shot on the last ball and KKR finish on 200. WICKET!! Russell is also caught short of the crease after attempting a bye and being sent back.
Russell run out (Klaasen) 1(2)
Cummins with the penultimate over. Four!! Venkatesh scoops the first ball over the keeper’s head for four. Six!! Short ball on the body, pulled over the legside for a huge six. Four!! Yorker down legstump, Venkatesh somehow gets it through the gap in fine leg for four more. Four!! Makes room on the legside, stretches out to combat the wide yorker and the edge flies through third man for four more. Fifty!! A couple down the ground brings up the fifty for Venkatesh Iyer. The batters scamper across for a third after an overthrow. Excellent over for the batting team.
Low full toss outside off by Simarjeet, Venkatesh cuts to deep point for one. Rinku pulls a short ball to deep midwicket for a single. Four!! Desperate attempt at cover but Venky’s shot clears the man and runs away to the fence for four. Four!! Short ball, pulled in between square leg and midwicket for another boundary. A single to deep midwicket off the next short ball. Six!! Slower, full ball on the stumps, Rinku lofts it straight down the ground for a huge maximum.
Harshal with his third. Slower ball on a length punched to point for one by Venky. Four!! Short ball, Rinku picks the length early and pulls it through midwicket for a boundary. Four!! Full toss wide outside off, Rinku slashes it to deep backward point who makes a meal of it and Rinku will get four. Four!! Full and wide off-pace ball, slammed through wide mid off for a third consecutive boundary. 15 from the over.
Shami with his last over. Rinku punches a length ball through the offside for one. Slower short ball, Venkatesh too early into his pull shot. Full on the stumps, Venkatesh whips it through wide mid on and will come back for a second run. Four!! Short and wide slower ball, easy pickings for Iyer who guides it above shot third for a boundary. A single to long off follows. Four!! Low full toss outside off, Rinku carves it over extra cover for a boundary. Some impetus into the innings now.
Simarjeet with his third over. Rinku pulls a short of a length to deep fine for a couple. Six!!! Venky moves legside, Simarjeet follows him with a bouncer, pulls it over fine leg for six! Full and straight, driven straight to mid off. Dot ball to finish.
Harshal back for his second. Venky Iyer punches the first ball to long on for a single. Rinku defends one to cover for a single. Two singles off the last two balls. Five from the over.
Raghuvanshi brings up his fifty with a single to long off against Kamindu Mendis. WICKET!! Raghuvanshi lofts one over the offside, Harshal runs in from the deep and completes an excellent low grab. Just four from the over as Rinku joins Venkatesh.
Raghuvanshi attempts a lofted shot over the legside, Nitish Reddy runs in from the deep but can’t hold on to the catch. Four!! Raghuvanshi mistimes a drive but gets it in the gap past mid on, runs away to the boundary. Seven from the over.
Six!! Zeeshan lofts one outside off, Raghuvanshi lofts it straight down the ground for six. Four!! A touch shorter, he brings out the reverse hit to pick up a boundary. WICKET! Rahane attempts a reverse sweep, the ball ricochets off his gloves into the pad and lobs up for Klaasen to complete an easy catch.
Rahane c Klaasen b Zeeshan Ansari 38(27)
Cummins comes back. Steered to deep third by Raghuvanshi for a single. Rahane walks across his stumps, and loops to lap this one behind the keeper but misses, and he cops one on the body. A big swing and a miss from Rahane and that’s another dot ball. A couple of singles to follow. SIX! Rahane middles this pull and clears deep midwicket to end the over with a maximum.
Ansari bowls his second over. He induces a leading edge from Rahane, but the ball falls short of the cover fielder. Pushed to deep cover for a single by Rahane next ball. Cut away by Raghuvanshi but he finds the fielder behind point. Punched off the back foot through covers for a single by Raghuvanshi. Whipped through midwicket by Rahane for one more. Width and cut away again to deep point by Raghuvanshi for a single. Just four runs from the over.
Harshal Patel into the attack. FOUR! Goes for a full delivery outside off and is punished by Raghuvanshi for a boundary to the cover boundary. Clipped off the pads by Raghuvanshi for one more. Slower one, and driven away down the ground by Rahane for one more. Short and wide, and Raghuvanshi wants to slash this over the keeper and misses. FOUR! Full toss on the stumps and driven through covers by Raghuvanshi.
Zeeshan Ansari into the attack. Shortish, and pulled away to deep midwicket by Rahane for a couple. FOUR! Punched off the back foot by Rahane through point, and a misfield by Nitish Kumar Reddy in the deep allows a boundary. Fullish and defended back to the bowler by Raghuvanshi. A single for him next ball through midwicket. Rahane was looking to cut this off the backfoot, but got an inside edge onto the wicketkeeper’s pads. Time for a strategic time out.
Simarjeet Singh to bowl the final PowerPlay over. SIX! Short, and Rahane goes for the pick-up shot again and clears the deep backward square-leg boundary with ease. A slower one next up by Simarjeet, and Rahane nudges it on the off-side for one more. Raghuvanshi continues to target the area behind point, and collects a single through that region. SIX! Too short again, and hooked over fine-leg by Raghuvanshi for a maximum to end the PowerPlay.
Shami bowls his third over on the trot. Punched behind point by Raghuvanshi for just a single. Elegantly punched by Rahane but straight to the point fielder. SIX! Rahane fetches this from outside off, gets low to pick it up and smash it over deep square-leg for another six. Punched to midwicket for one more by Rahane. FOUR! Boundary to end the over as Raghuvanshi steps out and slashes the ball behind point.
Cummins continues. Short outside off, Raghuvanshi steps out to smash this on the off-side but misses, undone by the bounce. Full, driven through covers, and a misfield allows Raghuvanshi to come back for a second. Raghuvanshi gets an inside edge onto his pads as he looks to cut this away, but he is too close to the ball. Short, pulled by Raghuvanshi and the ball falls short of the Harshal at deep square-leg. SIX! Picked up from just outside off by Rahane and deposited over deep square-leg by the skipper. Good reply by Cummins, who gets the ball to jag back into Rahane, and the ball goes through to the keeper off the batter’s thigh.
Shami will continue. Heaved away by Narine to deep midwicket for a single to start the over. Flicked to midwicket by Rahane for a single to open his account. OUT! Narine is gone. Wide yorker, Narine jams his bat at it and gets an outside edge to the keeper. He is standing there, not sure if the ball carried to the keeper, but doesn’t find too much support from Rahane. Both openers back in the hut.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi comes in. Starts off with a single as the steers this to third-man with an open bat face. A couple of dot balls to end the over as Shami keeps it on the shorter side outside off-stump.
Sunil Narine c Heinrich Klaasen b Mohammed Shami 7 (7b 1×6)
Pat Cummins from the other end. SIX! Narine flays the first ball over deep midwicket for a massive maximum. Yorker outside leg-stump, and the ball goes through Narine’s legs. Full toss next up outside off and driven straight to the cover fielder. That was a missed opportunity for the batter to smash another boundary. Batters collect a leg-bye as Narine is unable to put away a short-of-a-length delivery on leg-stump.
OUT! De Kock pulls straight to the deep square-leg fielder and Cummins strikes early.
Ajinkya Rahane is in. Defends this to backward point for a dot ball to end the over.
Quinton de Kock c Zeeshan Ansari b Pat Cummins 1 (6b)
The umpires make their way to the middle, while Pat Cummins leads his men onto the field. KKR openers follow suit, and Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine will be keen to turn things around.
Mohammad Shami to bowl the first over. De Kock on strike. Shami comes around the wicket and starts off with a huge wide outside leg-stump. FOUR LEG-BYES! On the pads again, and the ball clips the pads and runs away for four leg-byes.
Shami now comes over the wicket. On a good length on leg-stump and tucked away for a single by De Kock through square-leg. Shami continues to come around the wicket to Narine. On leg-stump and tucked away for one more. Finally Shami pitches one outside off-stump on a good length and punched to point by De Kock. Shami angles the ball away from De Kock, who wafts outside off and is beaten.

Previous year’s finalists Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), lying low this time with just a win apiece, will look to regain momentum when they meet in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Eden Gardens here on Thursday.
Title holder KKR will have a dual challenge of containing SRH’s explosive batters and realising its own batting potential.
KKR has struggled as only three of its batters, Quinton de Kock, captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, have gathered nearly 60 per cent of its runs.

For Kolkata Knight Riders, a better head-to-head record (19-9) and home environment should comfort it in this crucial test at Eden Gardens in the City of Joy.
