Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) dominance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 continued as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) became the latest prey on April 8. Shreyas Iyer-led team notched an 18-run win over Ruturaj Gaikwad’s CSK in a high-scoring thriller at the Mullanpur stadium, propelling themselves to the fourth position on the IPL 2025’s points table.

Batting first, Punjab Kings’ innings was largely defined by a spectacular performance from Priyansh Arya. The left-handed young batter smashed the fastest century ever recorded against CSK in IPL history, reaching the hundred-run mark in a mere 39 balls. Shashank Singh also made a valuable contribution with a stylish unbeaten knock of 52, helping PBKS reach a total of 219 runs for the loss of six wickets.
Chasing a target of 220 runs, Chennai Super Kings struggled to gain momentum throughout their innings. Their key batsmen, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra, were dismissed early on, while Devon Conway scored a measured fifty. Although MS Dhoni hit some aggressive shots towards the end of the innings, CSK ultimately fell short of the target by 18 runs.

Following their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament, CSK find themselves in a difficult position, currently occupying the ninth spot on the points table with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.889. In contrast, Punjab Kings now have a total of six points, placing them among the teams with the most points so far, and they boast a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.289.
CSK will next face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 11 at their own fortress Chepauk stadium followed by a crucial encounter against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 14 at the Ekana cricket stadium. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an away fixture on April 12.
