IPL 2025: Three late run-outs seal Delhi Capital’s defeat as Mumbai Indians win by 12 runs – The Express Tribune

The defeat is a major setback for Delhi Capitals, who were eyeing a fifth consecutive win.
Mumbai Indians pulled off a stunning 12-run win over Delhi Capitals in a high-scoring thriller at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, handing the home side their first defeat of IPL 2025 and snapping their four-match winning streak.
Chasing a daunting 206-run target, Delhi came close on the back of a sensational 40-ball 89 from Karun Nair, who fell just short of a well-deserved century. His explosive innings kept Delhi in the hunt, but a dramatic collapse in the final overs—triggered by Impact Substitute Karn Sharma—turned the tide.
Karn, brought in specifically for the second innings, bagged three crucial wickets, cracking the middle order wide open. The pressure culminated in a chaotic penultimate over that saw three run-outs, effectively sealing Delhi’s fate.
“There are no unbeaten teams left now,” remarked one commentator, as Delhi's dream run at home ended in heartbreak. This loss was particularly stinging given their control over most of the chase.
Earlier, Tilak Varma anchored the Mumbai innings with a gritty 59 off 33 balls, striking six boundaries and three sixes. Ryan Rickelton (41), Suryakumar Yadav (40), and Naman Dhir (38 not out) offered valuable contributions to take MI to 205 for 5.
For Delhi, Kuldeep Yadav stood out with figures of 2 for 23 in his four overs, while Vipraj Nigam picked up two wickets despite conceding 41.
The defeat is a major setback for Delhi Capitals, who were eyeing a fifth consecutive win. Skipper Axar Patel had won the toss and opted to bowl first, but his decision didn’t pay off as MI found their rhythm with the bat.
For Mumbai, this was only their second win in six matches, but one that could reignite their faltering campaign.
