Punjab Kings (PBKS) take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on April 8.
After winning the toss, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer, said:
“We are going to have a bat first, it’s simply because we had a discussion how our batting lineup is and we need to make the best use of it. In the last game, the dew wasn’t that much but that’s not in our control but we need to back out strengths. We are going in with the same team. We have got really good bowlers in our team but it’s important how use use them on a given occasion. The last game the ball wasn’t turning very much, got to give credit to the Rajasthan batsmen as well.”
Meanwhile, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, after losing the toss, said:
“We were looking to bat first as well, pretty dry wicket, new conditions for us and we need to adapt as soon as possible. We have been bowling pretty well but we have conceded more than 15 runs an over twice in an innings, hopefully we can improve on that. Same team for us. Me batting at 3 gives a bit more balance to our squad, it was decided during the auction time and hoping our openers will come good today. We have always been behind the game in the powerplay, it’s just about going there and enjoying yourselves.”

Punjab Kings Impact Subs: Suryansh Shedge, Yash Thakur, Praveen Dubey, Azmatullah Omarzai, Vyshak Vijaykumar
“We move pitches, we move a little eastwards, it’s a new pitch. The boundary dimensions have changed, the captains and bowlers will use the larger square boundary, 69m, a difference of 7m and it’s 74m down the ground. Consistency is the word that comes to mind, it looks identical to the wicket on Saturday. There are a few dry areas, I think batting and bowling stayed pretty consistent. Runs on the board helped on Saturday. The most important thing for me is the length you bowl on this wicket. Sometimes you saw that when you overpitch, the ball came on nicely and it’s easy to hit through the line and if you drop it too short, that set up nicely. Jofra Arches hit the top of good length, I think that’s your area so the length is crucial here,” Daren Ganga & Michael Clarke analysed the pitch.
Chennai and Punjab have so far clashed with each other 30 times in the IPL so far, in which PBKS have won on 14 occasions while CSK have emerged victorious in 16 matches.
