Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings defeated Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs in match 22 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which was being played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, on April 8 (Tuesday). Priyansh Arya smashed an astonishing hundred powered PBKS to a massive score of 219 runs at the loss of 6 wickets. Later, they restricted CSK to 201/5 to pick up another amazing victory this season.

Rookie opener Priyansh Arya fulfilled his lofty potential with an incredible century, leading Punjab Kings to 219 for six. After the hosts lost their five wickets for 83 runs in eight overs, the 24-year-old Delhi player, who gained notoriety last year for smashing six sixes in an over in a local competition, displayed his unique six-hitting abilities on the national stage to help Punjab Kings to the highest total at the stadium.

Seven boundaries and nine knocks over the fence saw Arya ride his luck and smash 103 off 42 balls. Shashank Singh (52 not out off 36 balls) also contributed to the impressive comeback by ensuring that Punjab Kings capitalized on the foundation that Arya had created. Marco Jansen, at number eight (34 not out off 19), likewise performed flawlessly. Shashank hit the ball crisply, building on his breakaway from the previous season, but Arya stole the stage. CSK’s mediocre bowling performance allowed Punjab Kings to rally and eventually take the lead. Pathirana gave up 52 runs in his allotted overs, while Ashwin gave up 48 runs in his four overs.

CSK got off to a great start as Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway joined a 61-run opening partnership. However, Maxwell provided the team with the breakthrough by sending back Ravindra on 36 off 23 balls. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad got out for just 1 run and brought PBKS back into the game. However, a 89-run partnership between Conway and Shivam Dube once again brought CSK into the match.
Dhoni too came to bat up the order and played a 12-ball 27 run knock but it was not enough for CSK to win the match. They eventually fell short in the chase and lost the game by a margin of 18 runs. This is the fourth consecutive loss for the five-time champions.
