New Delhi: In the fight against the betting nexus in the country, the Goa police arrested three persons in Porvorim on late Friday night in connection to their operation of a network, which accepted bets online for the ongoing cricket matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season held in various cities of the country.
According to reports by news agency PTI, a police spokesperson said that the crime branch raided an apartment in Porvorim locality, where the three accused were caught. Tigulla Shrinivas (39), Gaddala Kiran Kumar (37) and Annathapuram Shravankumar Chary (36) were reportedly accepting bets during the match 16 between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI) played in Lucknow. All three belong from Telangana.
As a matter of consequence, the police personnel confiscated the mobile phones, a laptop and all the gaming accessories, which were all worth of INR 1.80 lakh, from the three accused.
This is the second instance reported in this IPL season just after a week. The Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone Team, along with Chikkadapally police busted a cricket betting racket in the Telangana capital city and caught three persons in connection to the matter. The police seized cash of Rs 2,48,200 and mobile phones from the accused.
Mohd Firasath Ali of SRT Colony, Renin Bazar, Nitin Kumar from Moosarambagh, and Vikas Agarwal from from Domalguda were arrested. Firasath operated as a sub-bookie while Nitin and Vikas worked as punters.
According to Hyderabad police, the accused persons had connection to Jaipur from where they procured online user IDs for betting. A person named Pavan of Jaipur would provide them the IDs to operate and play cricket betting online in IPL 2025.
The materials which were nabbed were handed to the Chikkadpally police for further investigation. All the mobile phones and the cash amount was found near Sundaraiah Park.
