How much is the brand value of the Indian Premier League (IPL) & which franchise tops the brand value chart? – Indiatimes.com

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is back with another exciting season! IPL 2025 marks the 18th edition of this cash-rich T20 tournament, which has been entertaining cricket fans since 2008. This year’s tournament kicked off on March 22 and will continue until May 25, taking place across 13 venues with 10 teams competing for glory.
The IPL has grown into one of the biggest sports leagues in the world. According to the Brand Finance IPL 2024 assessment report, the tournament’s total brand value has surged by 13%, reaching a massive $12 billion, as reported in TOI. This is a significant leap from its $2 billion valuation in 2009. In 2023, the league crossed the $10 billion mark for the first time, hitting $10.7 billion.
The rising popularity of IPL 2025 continues to boost its financial strength, making it a top brand in the sports industry. With increasing global viewership and lucrative sponsorship deals, the IPL’s brand value is expected to grow even further.

Apart from the league’s overall worth, individual IPL teams have also seen tremendous brand growth. Brand Finance reported that four franchises—Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)—have each crossed the $100 million mark in brand value for the first time.
Let’s take a look at the top 10 most valuable IPL brands in 2025, based on the latest Brand Finance report:
Despite its rapid rise, IPL teams still have room to grow when compared to football leagues like the English Premier League (EPL), La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1. The combined brand value of the top five IPL teams stands at $551 million, significantly lower than the top European football leagues, where club values range from $2.9 billion (Bundesliga) to $6.7 billion (EPL), as per a TOI report.
However, IPL’s innovative business model, its massive fanbase, and the increasing influence of T20 cricket worldwide suggest that the league’s brand value will continue to rise in the coming years.
Ajimon Francis, Managing Director of Brand Finance India, highlights that IPL’s well-structured business model and effective match organisation have set a global benchmark. The tournament provides a strong commercial platform while also nurturing domestic cricket talent.
According to Francis, “The IPL ecosystem is now worth $1.3 billion and is closely observed by international sports leagues. Franchises like CSK, MI, RCB, KKR, and RR have expanded their presence by participating in various T20 leagues across the world.”
Beyond cricket, IPL has had a massive impact on India’s economy. The tournament has created over 1.25 million job opportunities, both directly and indirectly, in industries like hospitality, tourism, broadcasting, and merchandise sales.
Additionally, IPL’s influence is spreading beyond India. The league is gaining traction in markets like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the USA, and Australia, where T20 cricket is growing in popularity.
IPL 2025 continues to strengthen its position as one of the most valuable sporting leagues in the world. With a brand value of $12 billion, the tournament’s financial success is driven by increasing viewership, franchise investments, and sponsorships.
Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are leading the way as the most valuable IPL brands, but all teams are seeing impressive growth. As IPL expands its global reach, it is expected to become an even bigger force in the sports industry.
