Shreyas Iyer scored his second half-century of IPL 2025 as Punjab Kings cruised to an easy victory over Lucknow Super Giants. The PBKS captain remained unbeaten on 52, hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes. His stellar batting display earned him praise from both experts and fans alike. Among those impressed was legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who, during commentary, noted that Shreyas had not received the recognition he deserved for his captaincy during KKR’s title-winning campaign in 2024. Despite leading the team to victory, Shreyas was released by KKR after the season.
“Shreyas captained KKR to victory in 2024, yet did not receive the credit he truly deserved,” Sunil Gavaskar said.
In a dominant all-round performance, Punjab Kings outclassed Lucknow Super Giants by 8 wickets in an IPL match on Monday. The target was 172, and despite a pitch that offered grip and variable bounce, Punjab got off to a blistering start thanks to Prabhsimran Singh, whose destructive 34-ball 69 dismantled the LSG attack in the first 10 overs. With nine fours and three sixes, Prabhsimran effectively sealed the game for Punjab.
From there, it was an easy task for Shreyas Iyer and the target was achieved in just 16.2 overs. This left Rishabh Pant, the LSG captain, looking increasingly clueless. Young Nehal Wadhera, after a slow start, found his rhythm, finishing with an unbeaten 43 off 25 balls.
The match was decided in the two Powerplays, where Punjab outperformed their opponents. In the batting Powerplay, Lucknow were reduced to 39 for 3. Punjab’s bowling was a collective effort, with pacers Arshdeep Singh (3/43 from 4 overs), Lockie Ferguson (1/26 from 3 overs), and Marco Jansen (1/28 from 4 overs) contributing. The spinners, Glenn Maxwell (1/22 from 3 overs) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/36 from 4 overs), also played key roles in restricting Lucknow’s batting.
