A small shopkeeper from Palamu, Jharkhand, experienced a sudden turn of fortune, turning him into an overnight millionaire.
Ravi Kumar, the son of Mahendra Mehta from Teliyaband near Chianki railway station, just 5-7 km from Palamu district headquarters, won a staggering Rs 3 crore through the Dream 11 platform on the night of April 9. This unexpected windfall has brought immense joy and relief to his household.
Ravi’s family had been questioning him daily about the whereabouts of Rs 5 lakh that had seemingly vanished from his shop’s accounts. Despite the accusations and constant pressure, Ravi remained optimistic, repeatedly assuring his family that something significant was about to happen. His persistence paid off when he clinched the enormous prize by creating a winning team on the Dream 11 app.
In an interview with Local 18, Ravi revealed that he had only hoped to win Rs 1 lakh, having invested just Rs 49 to form his team. However, after a crucial wicket fell, his team soared to the top, securing the grand prize of three crore rupees. The atmosphere in his home has since been one of unbounded happiness. Overcome with emotion, Ravi embraced his mother, shedding tears of joy.
The newfound wealth comes as a significant boon for Ravi’s family, who have long relied on the modest income from their grocery shop. With half of their house still under construction and limited farmland, the prize money promises to transform their living conditions substantially.
Ravi has been playing Dream 11 since 2018, creating over 621 teams with two separate IDs. Despite facing losses amounting to Rs 5 lakh and constant criticism from his family for his apparent frivolous spending, Ravi remained determined.

His mother often scolded him for spending money meant for the shop, suspecting him of wrongdoing, especially since he was frequently seen engrossed in his mobile, even stopping his car to make teams.
When the prize money finally hit his account, Ravi’s family struggled to believe their good fortune until the funds were transferred to his mother’s account. The total amount will be subject to a 30% GST deduction, but Ravi plans to use the remaining money to improve his family’s living conditions and secure their future.
