A fan breached security during RCB's chase at Eden Gardens on Saturday, later arrested by police.
The IPL 2025 opener between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) turned into a one-sided contest, with Virat Kohli leading the charge for RCB in a commanding victory. However, the match became the talk of social media for a startling reason, a fan breached security to meet Kohli and touch his feet during the game.
The incident occurred during RCB's chase of a 175-run target on Saturday at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. In the 13th over of RCB's innings, after Kohli had brought up his half-century, a fan scaled the barbed wire fencing near the 'G' Block, evading police personnel, and ran onto the field.

The fan approached Kohli, touched his feet, and refused to let go until stadium security intervened. Play was halted briefly as security escorted the fan off the pitch.
Kohli, who remained unbeaten on 59 off 36 balls, helped RCB comfortably chase down the target with seven wickets and 22 balls to spare.
The video of the incident went viral on social media, catching the attention of Rajeev Shukla, who expressed his awe at Kohli’s fan following. "Amazing fan following of @imVkohli," he tweeted in response to the viral clip.
Following the match, Kolkata Police arrested the fan, identified as 18-year-old Rhituparno Pakhira from Jamalpur village in the Purba Bardhaman district. He was taken to Kolkata's Maidan police station, where a suo motu complaint was filed based on a report by a sub-inspector.

Pakhira has been charged under Sections 132 (assaulting or using criminal force against a public servant), 329(3) (criminal trespass), and 125 (acts endangering human life or personal safety through reckless actions) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
After his arrest, Pakhira expressed his admiration for Kohli. “Virat is my god, and I am prepared to face anything for him,” he said.
Earlier, KKR had posted 174 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with 56 off 31 balls, while Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi contributed 44 off 26 and 30 off 22, respectively. Despite the fan incident, RCB's chase was straightforward as they secured victory with ease.
