As the Bharatiya Janata Party continue to dominate in the Delhi election results, Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva said that the people of Delhi have showed faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will visit the party’s headquarters on Saturday’s evening.
“People of Delhi have shown faith in PM Modi. It’s a huge victory for us and the people of Delhi…He (PM Modi) will come to the party headquarters in the evening,” Sachdeva said.
As the current trends show Bharatiya Janata Party poised to get majority in Delhi assembly elections, social activist Anna Hazare criticised Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party for their alleged involvement in controversies surrounding liquor and money.
Hazare said he was talking for long time about the importance of “character” of political candidates, but AAP didn’t understood and that’s why their support was reduced.
Speaking with the reporters, Hazare said, “I have been saying for a long time that while contesting the election – the candidate must have a character, good ideas and have no dent on image. But, they (AAP) didn’t get that. They got tangled in liquor and money – his (Arvind Kejriwal) image was dented because of it and that’s why they are getting fewer votes in the election.”
Anything is possible in politics and that’s what we are seeing in the country’s capital — Delhi. The Narendra Modi-led BJP is on course to break its 27-year drought, crossing the required 36-seat majority mark in the polls.
With this win, the BJP has trounced Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP, which has been in power for three consecutive years. It first came to power in Delhi in 2013, winning 28 seats, but the government lasted just 49 days. In the 2015 elections, the party won a record 67 seats. In the 2020 polls, the AAP won 62 seats.
BJP leader Radhika Khera on Saturday exuded confidence that her party will form the government in the national capital after a hiatus of 27 years as Delhi Election trends show the party leading in 47 seats in the 70-members constituency.
Referring to BJP’s election symbol, Khera said that lotus will bloom in the national capital. “We had already seen the results on the ground when we were campaigning… The lotus will bloom and the BJP will form the government,” Khera said.
BJP MP Atul Garg exuded confidence in his party bagging more than 50 percent of votes. “…BJP will get 50% more votes and the party will form the government.”
Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Saturday met at the party’s office in New Delhi as the early trends showed that the party is poised to form the government in the national capital after 27 years.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday weighed in on the Delhi Election trends, saying that the early results show a sharp competition between the BJP and the opposition parties.
Raut said that if the Congress and AAP had allied, the outcome might have been very different.
He emphasised that both the Congress and AAP have the same political opponent – the BJP – but unfortunately, they chose to fight individually rather than join forces.
“The early trends show a sharp competition. Had Congress and AAP been together, the results may have been different… The political opponent of AAP and Congress is BJP. Both of them fought to keep BJP from coming to power, but they fought individually. If they had been together then BJP’s defeat must have been confirmed in the first hour (of counting),” said Raut.
The counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly Election 2025 is underway today, February 8, 2025. Trends showed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking a strong lead over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
As per the latest tally as given by the Election Commission of India, BJP was leading in 41 constituencies, while AAP was ahead in 29. The Delhi Assembly has 70 seats, with 36 required for a majority. With BJP leading in over 40 seats, it appears to be on track to form the next government in the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCTD).
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday said that the people of Delhi have chosen PM Modi’s good model of governance and have rejected Arvind Kejriwal’s bad model as BJP crossed the majority mark in Delhi election results in the early trends.
Speaking to ANI, Sachdeva emphasised that this election was a contest between good governance and bad governance.
“The situation in Delhi–contaminated water, broken roads, poor sanitation, pollution in Yamuna, and much more–is a reflection of Kejriwal’s model of governance, which the people of Delhi have rejected,” he said.
As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ahead in the Delhi assembly election results, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has taken a swipe at the fight between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Despite being allies in the INDIA bloc, Congress and AAP fought bitterly in the Delhi assembly elections and there was no alliance between the two. Congress leaders slammed AAP over the issues of governance and corruption during the elections.

BJP supporters erupted in celebration outside its Delhi headquarters as the latest counting trends showed the saffron party returning to power in the national capital after more than 26 years with a decisive mandate.
Supporters danced to the beats of ‘dhol’ and waved party flags, creating a festive atmosphere.
Holding up cutouts of a lotus, the BJP’s election symbol, they also smeared each other with saffron-coloured powder.
The BJP was leading in 41 of Delhi’s 70 assembly seats while AAP was ahead in 29, according to the latest trends released by the Election Commission.
With the early trends showing a significant lead for the BJP, its Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva reaffirmed the party’s confidence in forming a government in the national capital.
He said the next Delhi chief minister would be from the BJP and added that the central leadership would decide who it would be.
Bharatiya Janata Party’s National Spokesperson, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain on Saturday expressed confidence of his party’s win in the Delhi Assembly polls, asserting that a BJP government will be formed in the national capital.
Hussain said that people had recognised Aam Aadmi Party chief and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s true nature after eleven years in politics, claiming he had never been a “common man” but an income tax commissioner who had disguised himself as a common man.
Speaking with ANI on the day of counting of Assembly polls in Delhi, Hussain said, “A BJP government will be formed in Delhi. ‘Modi ke guarantee ki jeet hai.’ People have recognised the pretense of Arvind Kejriwal in eleven years, that he was never a common man, and was a income tax commissioner.”

Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the AAP government in the national capital, accusing the party of ‘luring, distracting and diverting’ public attention from the key issues of the city and said that the result on the counting day will be in favour of BJP’s double engine government.
“People of Delhi have selected the path of development, and the result will be in BJP’s favour,” said Virendraa Sachdeva.
Speaking to ANI, Sachdeva said, “We believe that the result will come in favour of the BJP, our workers have worked with resilience and passion. The feedback from our party workers and early trends suggest that a double-engine government is being formed in Delhi.”
The counting of votes for the high-stakes election in Delhi has begun and early trends are favouring the exit polls. The BJP has surged ahead, leaving the AAP comfortably behind.
If these trends hold, the BJP will be making a comeback to the Capital after 27 years by defeating the AAP, which won the elections in 2015 and 2020. For many, these elections aren’t just about Delhi either. The verdict today (February 8) will have far-reaching implications for national politics.
Chief Minister Atishi was trailing BJP rival Ramesh Bidhuri by 1,149 votes from Kalkaji seat at the end of the first round of counting for the Delhi Assembly polls, the Election Commission website showed.
Bidhuri said the AAP would be “eliminated” from Delhi.
“The people will give the BJP a decisive mandate. Under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, Delhi will progress along with the rest of the country. I can confidently say that the AAP will be eliminated from the national capital,” he said.
The voters in Kalkaji have prioritised development and will support the BJP, he said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has crossed the majority mark in the Delhi assembly election results, as per the early trends from the Election Commission.
The BJP is currently leading on 38 seats while the AAP is ahead on 27 seats. The majority mark to form the government in the national capital is 36.
AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal is leading from the New Delhi seat by a vote margin of 254.
AAP candidate and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj is trailing to BJP’s Shikha Roy on Greater Kailash seat by 459 votes.

The next Delhi chief minister will be from the BJP but the central leadership will decide on who it will be, the party’s Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva said on Saturday as votes were counted for the assembly elections held earlier this week.
The BJP was leading in 38 seats and the AAP in 27, according to early trends on the Election Commission website.
“The results so far are in line with our expectations but we will wait for the final outcome,” Sachdeva told reporters after offering prayers at the Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place.
According to Sachdeva, BJP candidates had worked diligently and Delhi’s voters had chosen development and a corruption-free governance model. “The people have picked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership because they wanted a model of development.” Asserting that the BJP would form a “double-engine government” in Delhi, he said, “We have no hesitation in saying that this win is a result of PM Modi’s vision. We will ensure that Delhi gets a strong and stable government.”
Taking a dig at AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and his party, he said the BJP fought the elections on real issues affecting Delhiites such as broken roads, liquor policy controversies, dirty water and corruption.

Exuding confidence, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) incumbent MLA and candidate Somnath Bharti on Saturday said that he was neither worried about the elections nor the results.
Bharti claimed that exit polls are made in BJP headquarters and hence there is nothing to worry about.
Speaking to ANI, Somnath Bharti said, “… I have served the people for 11 years, hence, I am neither worried about the elections nor the results… The exit polls are made in BJP headquarters, there is nothing to worry about…”
Authorities have increased security measures as the vote counting process for the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly is scheduled to begin on Saturday.
Visuals showed security personnel deployed outside various counting centers in Delhi.
Meanwhile, exit polls have predicted a comfortable victory for the BJP in the polls, with AAP falling behind and Congress continuing its dismal performance. However, AAP leaders have stated that exit polls have always underestimated the party’s seat count, and they expressed confidence in the party’s return to power.
Key constituencies include New Delhi, where AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is contesting against Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit and Parvesh Verma of the BJP. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi is facing BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress candidate Alka Lamba.
The campaign saw sharp exchanges between leaders of the three parties.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi, on Friday, refuted claims made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, who alleged that the Election Commission (EC) had not provided booth-wise voting data for the assembly constituencies. The poll body clarified that the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961, had been “complied with in letter and spirit” at every polling station.
“As per Rule 49S of the Conduct of Election Rules 1961, all the Presiding Officer had furnished the account of votes recorded in Form 17C to every Polling Agent present at the polling station on the day of poll, February 5, 2025,” Delhi CEO’s office posted on X.
On Friday, Kejriwal alleged that the Election Commission has refused to upload Form 17C, which gives booth-wise the total number of votes polled in each assembly election.
“EC has refused to upload form 17C and the number of votes polled per booth in each assembly despite several requests. Aam Aadmi Party has made a website, where we have uploaded all the form 17C of every assembly,” Kejriwal said in a post on X.
The Rule 49S part (1) of the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961 states, “The presiding officer shall at the close of the poll prepare an account of votes recorded in Form 17C and enclose it in a separate cover with the words ‘Account of votes recorded’ superscribed thereon.
The second part of Rule 49S states that the presiding officer shall provide a copy of Form 17C to every polling agent.
“The presiding officer shall furnish every polling agent present at the close of the poll a true copy of the entries made in Form 17C after obtaining a receipt from the said polling agent therefor and shall attest it as a true copy,” part (2) of Rule 49S of Conduct of Election rules states.
