End of match: KKR win by 8 wickets
It was a forgettable return to captaincy for MS Dhoni as his team was completely outplayed by a dominant KKR outfit. The defending champions were clinical with the ball — especially their spinners.
A one-sided affair that firmly displayed KKR’s strength and left the CSK camp with plenty to ponder.
Overs 1 to 6: KKR 71/1
Kolkata Knight Riders came out all guns blazing in the powerplay. Sunil Narine set the tone by smashing a first-ball six off Khaleel Ahmed.
Quinton de Kock joined the party — hitting two sixes off Khaleel in the third over. Ravichandran Ashwin too proved expensive — conceding 12 in his first over.
Narine continued to attack — ending the powerplay with a four to take KKR to 71/1 in 6 overs.
End of the innings: Chennai Super Kings 103/9
Well, they never got going in this innings as Shivam Dube helps them scrape through the 100-run mark with his 31*(29).
Rahul Tripathi once again failed to impress with only 16(22) before he was cleaned up by Sunil Narine, who was the pick of the bowlers with 3/13 in 4 overs.
Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana each pick 2 for 22 and 16 runs in in their spell as they take KKR a step closer to 2 points.
End of 10 overs: Chennai Super Kings 61/3
The men in yellow are still unable to get going, just going tad over 6 runs per over at the halfway mark.
Varun Chakravarthy struck and sent the only dangerous-looking batter, Vijay Shankar at 29(21).
Shivam Dube has joined Rahul Tripathi who is also taking his time to get in after a poor run in the first few games. He is 15*(18) with 10 overs to go.
End of the powerplay: Chennai Super Kings 31/2
The hosts continue to struggle with the bat as they lose both their openers inside the powerplay.
Moeen Ali has been the pick of the bowlers with just 4 conceded for a wicket in his 2 overs while Harshit Rana also struck a wicket on the first ball of his spell and conceded only 2.
Vijay Shankar was also dropped once by Sunil Narine after Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway fell for 4 and 12 respectively.
7:30 pm: Match begins! Rachin Ravindra faces Vaibhav Arora to start the proceedings for the evening.
