CSK Qualification Scenarios: How Can MS Dhoni's Team Make It To IPL 2025 Playoffs – Cricket.com

The Chennai Super Kings have had one of the worst starts ever to an Indian Premier League (IPL) season ever in IPL 2025. They have lost five matches on a trot and have only eight more left in the season to try and resurrect themselves. Losing five matches in a row has never happened before for CSK before in IPL history.
Their most trusted and most successful skipper, MS Dhoni, has taken over the reins of the side from young Ruturaj Gaikwad after he was ruled out of the season due to injury.
Even though they had lost the first game under his captaincy, fans of the franchise would be hoping for a revival in their team's fortunes. All is not lost for them as the Super Kings could still make it to the playoffs of IPL 2025 in the following scenarios.
CSK IPL Playoff 2025 Qualification Scenarios
The best way for CSK to make a comeback this season is by winning all their remaining matches. For that, they would have to win eight IPL games in a row, which would be a first for the team. The longest winning streak for CSK was in 2013, when they won seven in a row to reach the final, where they eventually lost to Mumbai Indians.
However, since they have already lost five matches in a row, they might do well to create another first and win eight in a row. Prior to CSK, Kolkata Knight Riders (10 matches in a row in 2014-15) and Kings XI Punjab (8 matches in a row in 2013-14) had won eight in a row before. By winning eight, they will finish at 18 points with nine wins out of 15 games.
If they are unable to win eight in a row, CSK should repeat their best by winning at least seven in a row and finish the season with 16 points on the board, which will surely take them to the playoffs. Thus, the Chennai side can manage to lose at least one more game.
Since the IPL became a 10-team tournament in 2022, only Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been able to qualify for the playoffs after winning just seven matches. But in that season, four teams finished with 14 points each.
Thus, there is hope that CSK can also make it to the playoffs even after losing two more games, having already lost five of them.
But if they lose more than two, they would not be able to make it to the playoffs of IPL 2025.
