Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh walk out on the Ekana Stadium pitch to open the batting for LSG, with Markram having the strike.
Khaleel Ahmed, who was wicketless against KKR, will start the bowling for CSK.
What a stunning catch from Rahul Tripathi! After hitting a boundary, Markram tries to hit the ball towards the leg side but gets a thick leading edge, and the ball flies up. Tripathi covers a lot of ground — almost 30 metres — and dives forward to send the South African back for six runs.
Aiden Markram 6(6) c Tripathi b Ahmed
An up-and-down start for Lucknow Super Giants in the first three overs. After the strong start in the first over was curtailed with Markram’s wicket, Anshul Kamboj gave away just one run in the second over.
Khaleel’s third over was decent, barring a six from Nicholas Pooran. The West Indian was not in control of his shot at all, but the top edge flies over the fine leg position.
LSG: 12/1 (3)
What a magnificent review from CSK! After an expensive over, conceding 11 runs, Anshul Kamboj dismisses danger-man Nicholas Pooran. A round-the-wicket delivery from the bowler hits the West Indian on the pads, but the bowler’s huge appeal fails to move the umpire.
MS Dhoni looks at Kamboj and decides to go upstairs, and UltraEdge shows a clear gap between ball and pad, and ball tracking shows the ball hitting the leg stump.
Nicholas Pooran 8(9) lbw b Kamboj
LSG: 23/2 (4)
After a disastrous start, losing two wickets in four overs, LSG are trying to improve their innings. Mitch Marsh has taken charge, hitting Khaleel Ahmed for a four and a six in the fifth over.
Then Rishabh Pant — who has found runs hard to come by this season — joined in the action against Anshul Kamboj, hitting a powerful shot towards the square leg side for four runs, following it up with a reverse scoop six against Jamie Overton.
LSG: 53/2 (7)
Dhoni opts to bring in spin in the eighth over, with Jadeja taking the ball. Pant and Marsh start strong against the all-rounders orthodox spin, hitting two boundaries.
Purple cap holder Noor Ahmad has a much better first over, conceding just five runs, dealing in just singles. Still, LSG’s run rate is 7.55 at the moment.
LSG: 68/2 (9)
Jadeja with the ultimate comeback! After a bottom edge gets a boundary for Rishabh Pant, Jadeja bowls a skidding delivery that completely fools Mitch Marsh. The batter swung and missed, and the ball smashed the off stump. LSG are three down.
Mitchell Marsh 30(25) b Jadeja
Young Ayush Badoni is enjoying his time on the Ekana pitch. With Noor Ahmad bowling economically on one end, the LSG batter has looked to target Jadeja and Overton, hitting two massive sixes off the latter in the 12th over. The run rate is nearly eight now.
LSG: 95/3 (12)
With two run machines on the pitch for LSG at the moment, another machine has made its debut in IPL season 18. Look at the newest member of the Indian Premier League family:

A short and wide delivery from Matheesha Pathirana proves to be the downfall of Ayush Badoni, who tries to chop at it but ends up hitting it one-handed only as far as Vijay Shankar.
The young batter waits for a third-umpire check, as LSG claim it was the third bouncer from Pathirana. The TV umpire agrees that the ball was marginally above shoulder height, which means it’s a no ball, and Badoni gets another life.
LSG: 103/3 (13)
The TV umpire is turning out to be a saviour for young Ayush Badoni. After a marginal review saved him in the previous over, the young batter tries to reverse sweep Jadeja but the ball hits him on the pad. Jadeja appeals and immediately gets a decision in his favour.
Pant goes upstairs, even though Badoni himself does not look convinced. UltraEdge shows the slighest of spikes whne the ball passes the gloves, and the decision is overturned, again.
Third time lucky for CSK, and Badoni got a bit over-confident, and tries to charge down the pitch way before the ball departed Jadeja’s hands. The wide delivery misses Badoni, and Dhoni has all the time in the world to take off the bails.
The young batter waits before leaving as LSG go upstairs to check if Dhoni’s gloves were completely behind the stumps while taking off the bails. No luck for Badoni this time, and he has to leave.

LSG: 107/4 (14)
Lucknow’s run board is not ticking as quickly as skipper Rishabh Pant, who is out on the pitch, would like. Barring a six off Pathirana by Abdul Samad, the home side has not been able to hit the big shots, getting just 15 runs in the last three overs.
LSG: 121/4 (17)
After a tough start to his IPL 2025 campaign, Rishabh Pant reaches his half-century in 42 balls, hitting a one-handed six beyond deep square leg. A scrachy, grinding innings so far for the skipper, but those runs will be vita for LSG in the second innings.
LSG: 139/4 (18)
Abdul Samad, who hit a massive six in the final ball of the 19th over off Khaleel Ahmed, is sent back in the final over. Attempting to take a run from a wide ball, Dhoni collects the ball and throws it down towards the non-striker’s stump, hitting bull’s eye and sending back the big hitter, who was beginning to settle down.
Abdul Samad 20(11) run out Dhoni
Pant’s innings comes to an end, attempting to hit a big one off a full delivery but getting a top edge from the one handed shot. Catching practice for MS Dhoni. A fine innings from the LSG skipper in tough conditions.
Rishabh Pant c Dhoni b Pathirana 63(49)
A decent final over from Matheesha Pathirana, conceding four runs from wides and a lucky, top-edge boundary from Shardul Thakur. It’s the Sri Lankan who has the last laugh, dismissing Thakur in the final ball, getting his second wicket in the game.
LSG cross the 160-run mark, but this is still their lowest total in IPL 2025. A good chase awaits.
LSG: 166/7 (20)
Racin Ravindra opens the batting for CSK alongside youngster Shaik Rasheed, who is making his IPL 2025 debut – as well as his T20 opener career – today. Meanwhile, Purple Cap contender Shardul Thakur has the ball for LSG.
A good start in the run chase for Chennai, with Rachin Ravindra hitting back-t-back boundaries in the first over off Shardul Thakur. It’s debutant Shaik Rasheed’s turn in the next over, hitting three boundaries against Akash Deep, with the fast outfield at Ekana assisting the CSK batters.
CSK’s openers are hitting at the rate of 11.50 runs, and LSG need a wicket soon.
CSK: 23/0 (2)
An impressive debut performance from Shaik Rasheed comes to an end. CSK has hit five boundaries in the last three overs, and Rasheed looks to go big again, but Avesh Khan’s slower delivery gets the top edge, and Nicholas Pooran grabs it.
Shaik Rasheed 27(19) c Pooran b Avesh
CSK: 52/1 (5)
What a mess! Rahul Tripathi tries to hit a googly from Bishnoi across the line, but the leading edge takes it high up in the air. Abdul Samad gets himself under the ball, but his casual attempt means that the ball bounces right off his hand, and let me tell you, Bishnoi is NOT pleased!
CSK: 67/1 (7)
That’s two quick wickets for LSG, as Aiden Markram delivers under pressure. The Kiwi batter attempts to sweep the ball but misses, and it hits him on the thigh. A review is taken by CSK, but Ravindra does not look confident, and TV umpire agrees with the on-field decision.
Rachin Ravindra 37(22) lbw b Markram
CSK: 74/2 (8)
A wobble from CSK, as Tropathi hits it straight back to bowler Ravi Bishnoi. A quick reaction but straightforward catch from the spinner. CSK lose their third.
Rahul Tripathi 9(10) c & b Bishnoi
Bishnoi gets his second, and it’s Ravindra Jadeja now! The all-rounder has looked uncomfortable on the pitch, and his attempt to clear the ropes has only gone as far as Markram.
Ravindra Jadeja 7(11) c Markram b Bishnoi
After hitting a boundary in his first ball, Bishnoi almost gets the perfect revege against Vijay Shankar. Shankar tries a hit and miss, and runs a run from leg bye, but the bowler appeals for LBW, which the umpire waves away. LSG review the decision, and ball tracking shows it hitting the leg stump — just about, so it’s umpire’s call. Talk about fine margins.
CSK: 104/4 (13)
An economical over from Digvesh Rathi pays off, as Vijay Shankar tries to relieve the pressure with a big shot. He ends up slicing it, and Avesh Khan somehow manages to hold on to the ball at short third.
Vijay Shankar 9(8) c Avesh b Rathi
CSK: 111/5 (15)
With 52 runs needed to win, MS Dhoni hits two back-to-back boundaries off Avesh Khan. The first one is a deliberate one, dispatched with power towards mid off. The second one has a hint of luck, nicked behind towards fine third for four.
CSK: 123/5 (16)
MS Dhoni has been excellent so far, hitting at a strike rate of 250. However, the LSG bowlers are trying to keep Shivam Dube on the strike, with the left hander struggling to get going, batting at 26 off 30 balls.
CSK need 24 runs from the last two overs.
CSK: 143/5 (18)
Chennai Super Kings have broken their five-match losing streak, securing a five-wicket win over LSG — with no small thanks to MS Dhoni’s lightning 26-run innings.
CSK have successfully chased down the 167-run target with three balls to spare.
CSK: 168/5 (19.3)
Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named as the Player of the Match as a result of his match-winning 26-run knock off 11 balls, as well as one stumping and one run out.
